    The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically highlighted social inequities in health. In response, the American Heart Association launched the National Hypertension Control Initiative, an evidence-based community program with the goal to reduce high blood pressure, in under-resourced neighborhoods.

    Reducing high blood pressure is central to living longer, healthier lives. With the best science available, we’re reaching out to communities where hypertension, or high blood pressure, is most prevalent and increases the risks for severe chronic conditions such as heart disease and stroke.

    In response, the American Heart Association launched the National Hypertension Control Initiative, an evidence-based, community-driven effort to reduce hypertension, or high blood pressure, in communities across the country. This initiative collaborates and is supported by the Office of Minority Health and the Health Resources & Services Administration Bureau of Primary Care.
